    EGR Blank Yd25

As I understand it the EGR only opens at low power settings anyway, so it's more of a compliance device than an actual emission-reduction thing. Happy to be told otherwise though... My EGR system is fully functional but for a blanking plate and a U-shaped hose that cuts off the EGR cooler- it's...

    EGR Blank Yd25

Did the same on my 8-port YD25 (2013 engine in a 2012 D40), no check engine light and no codes.

Glow plug faulty engine light pops up

If the connectors are making electrical contact and staying in place I wouldn't bother replacing the harness.

Glow plug faulty engine light pops up

It's easy, just take the plastic cover off the engine (3 or 4 10m bolts, I can't remember exactly) and the glow plug wiring is easily accessible. The connectors are fairly loose, you can move them about when connected, but if they stay clipped to the plugs they will probably be OK. If the...

    Engine swap

When I was looking for a replacement engine for my Navara I was told the Pathfinder has a slightly different sump/oil pan. Looking at Pathfinder engines I honestly couldn't see a difference, but the engine is a tight fit and I don't think it's safe to assume they are the same. I hope someone...

    D40 Turbo Overboost Issue

Based on my limited experience, it might be worth checking the turbo vanes and possibly cleaning them. They do get sticky and without any specific knowledge I've read that the earlier boost control is more prone to problems than the 140kW version. There are certainly good, cheap turbos out...

Glow plug faulty engine light pops up

A poor electrical connection in the glow plug circuit will give a code. The plastic fittings on the glow plug harness get very brittle and they don't hold on to the plugs very well. That's the first thing I'd check, along with the condition of the insulation on the harness.

YD25: is it really a dog?

Mine blew at over 300,000km (not a typical experience) and I put a new engine in it as it was the cheapest way to get an equivalent vehicle with a low-mileage powertrain. Since getting the new engine I've been doing more maintenance myself and for what it's worth, I don't think it's particularly...

    Engine limp mode issues

Suction control valve would have been my first thought, but you've done that so obviously not. Can you check fuel pressure? I have a cheap OBD2 reader that shows limited live data for diesels, but does show live rail pressure for my D40. It doesn't seem like a bad fuel pump, as it wouldn't come...

ABS light on but no recorded faults

Had an ABS light on my 2012 D40 last week after a wheel alignment, turned out to be an ECU fuel cut-off error code, so an error between the engine management system and the ABS. Prior to the alignment it had 2 steering angle sensor errors due to the poor alignment, the fuel cut-off error...

    2012 D40 VDC doesn't reset

I had the A/C more or less completely replaced, which involved the entire dash being removed to replace the evaporator. Since getting the car back I have the VDC and slip lights on and they don't clear as normal after driving a short distance. There are no codes (according to my cheapo OBD2 scan...

    2012 Spanish YD25 died

It's been a bit, check engine light turned out to be the glowplug circuit. The plastic boots on the connectors are brittle and don't fit as well as they did, #2 wasn't making good contact with the glowplug. I had to take it back to the mechanic as I don't have a code reader. He crimped the...

    2012 Spanish YD25 died

New low km engine is in and I will get the car back in a day or two. I'll get the dead engine in about a week and have a closer look at what went wrong. Edit: got it back, everything is good including the new Exedy clutch with solid flywheel. There's significant low frequency vibration when...

    2012 Spanish YD25 died

I've spoken to a few people who have got to 500,000km with their VSK D40s with no trouble. My car was bought new by me and looked after with scrupulous attention to servicing and maintenance but unfortunately it developed an issue that wasn't and probably couldn't be detected during normal...

    2012 Spanish YD25 died

Maybe...! It depends which Hilux though. I'm currently driving a borrowed 2002 Hilux with the excellent :sarcastic: 3 litre diesel. As they say, always late with a 2.8, but it's still too slow with the 3.0. I can live with it though, it does still run, unlike my Navara.

    2012 Spanish YD25 died

I'm not sure either, but that's what I've been told. I've now spoken to three mechanics who say it's probably the injectors but were very vague about how they would cause such a failure. The cause of the fault is most unlikely to be the injectors themselves though, as all cylinders were...

    Long-time D40 owner

Thanks, I posted in the engine & drivetrain forum with more details, but basically it lost compression on all 4, pistons overheated and also all pistons lightly touched the valves. Have been told it's likely caused by an injector issue but really not sure.

    2012 Spanish YD25 died

My 2012 VSK YD25 let go completely at 360,000km. No definite cause but it has no compression on any cylinder. Suspicion is that camchain wear allowed the pistons to lightly touch the valves, although it also looks as if the pistons have got very hot on the exhaust side. I'm not sure if that's...

I bought my D40 new in 2012 and as a measure of its reliability, I have never looked for any technical info on the internet until a few weeks ago. Disastrous engine failure sent me on the inevitable searches for info though, and this forum seemed to be the best, so here I am.
