    Cooling fan clutch

Thanks Horrie. When you look at the ute front-on (in person), there's still plenty of room around the accessories and under the bar for air to flow through....so it's a bit of a head-scratcher. Given that I'm planning to do lots of camping and exploring this summer, and I need to tow our...

    Uniden CB Radio set up

I'm still very much learning the UHF lingo too mate. The owners manual that came with mine is quite good. It explains all that stuff....a bit. I don't know exactly tone calling is or why/when you use it. Might be for a closed group of users? All I've managed with mine so far is to listen to a...

    Cooling fan clutch

Fan runs on for quite a few seconds after shut down. I might take a video & post it up... Thermostat - I agree. They stay closed until the block is warm & then open for flow. And some engines will run hotter with the thermostat removed because coolant moves around too fast to cool down in the...

    D22 Timing chain noise?

Hmm...definitely a noise there. Was that stone cold start up? Might be the ratchet clutch in the alternator pulley telling you it wants to retire? I've haven't had the pleasure of hearing a wayward timing chain rattle yet, so I can't say. Some people reckon it sounds like ticking, some say...

Anyone had the viscous clutch apart?

    Cooling fan clutch

Howdy Nav Heads, Lately my coolant temps have been creeping just a little higher under load than I'd like. It's nothing serious yet, but it's still Winter in Tasmania, so a mild issue now could be serious in February. So I've begun to observe & troubleshoot. First step was to drill & file...

    Doublestar Wild Tiger T01 Tyres

Although I'm more a fan of the mid-range brands like Kuhmo, Toyo, Cooper, Falken etc I think these tyres deserve consideration purely for the awesome name. Not one star, but two! Not a Puma or a Coyote or a Dueler or a Hawk......but a Wild Tiger!!!!! Rumour has it next years' new model is the...

    4 Low Issue

Could indeed be something mechanical within the trf case....but... Have you checked the wheel speed sensors at each corner? Quite often 4x4 engage/disengage probs lead back to these little buggers. My old mans' Nav refused to engage 4x4 a while back. Front passenger sensor wire was damaged...

    D40 Alternator pully gone missing

Noice. I've heard about that pulley clutch on the FB groups. It's always nice when you can just replace individual failed parts, where possible. My local Repco are great with spares too. Usually have what I need & don't rip me off. The other day I replaced the serpentine belt on the wife's...

    2009 D40 4x4

That looks pretty good mate. Similar to mine - '08 STX 4x4, low kms & good quality accessories. I don't think $17k is unfair. ... but I'm only looking at photos on a screen. Test drive reveals plenty about a vehicle if you know what to look/listen for. And you need to know what you're getting...

    D40 Alternator pully gone missing

I know the answer has prolly been covered in similar threads, but.... When this happens is the repair generally a whole new alternator?....or just a new pulley+bearing? I s'pose it depends on how big the punch-up was when the pulley wanted to leave the island? My cynical side says no-one...

new member. My d40 lost speed passing a b-double road train

Do you know how many kms are on the fuel filter? When your foot is flat you're asking for maximum fuel supply. Sometimes when a f/f is full of crap they will allow enough fuel through at partial load, but cannot flow enough at high load. This scenario might trigger a fuel related fault code too...

Boost control Valve/solenoid question..... or two

So what's the new set-up? No vacuum actuation at all...?

    ZD30 Vibration at low RPMs

What about clutch, pressure plate, flywheel? Maybe if something has failed (partially).....it could be moving around at low revs. But at higher RPM the centrifugal forces are "locking" it back in place? (just a random thought...)

    Adjusting belts

So the YD25 has "old style" belt tension management via the position of the alternator & pulley? My old Falcon has a spring loaded tensioner that is a breeze to push back for belt removal. Is there nothing similar on the Navs ??

Timing Chain Failures and Oil Filters

Yep. I would agree with this 100% Don't ever trust anything a car maker offers ....including longer service intervals than the competition. Oil analysis is actually a pretty deep science. There's lots of performance indicators, chemical indicators, lubrication abilities (or dis-abilities)...

    centrallocking

I had a similar problem the other day...but I don't have a definitive answer for you. I went to the ute & started it to let it warm up. Went back out 10 mins later and it had locked itself. Completely. Engine running with key in ignition and all doors locked. So...no worries I thought....I'll...
