D40 on the Old Telegraph Track

Agree Krafty....but I have learned that in the out of the way places you MUST carry a fuel filter, oil filter and air filter.....and in my case with the auto requiring fully synthetic oil....I also carry 10 ltrs of this liquid gold. These bits are simply not available in places like Birdsville...

D40 on the Old Telegraph Track

These couple of pics were taken on the very last day of the trip proper....after this we had a couple of weeks in Cairns and surrounds. These falls are on the Bloomfield River and the croc was sunning itself on a rock about 30 metres from the walking path. Also....as you may recall.....I had a...

D40 on the Old Telegraph Track

I carried that 4kg gas bottle as a spare (I have a 9kg bottle on the camper) and you know what......never used the bloody thing once. Reckon I'll only take that when I hear off on my own with the tent after this experience.

D40 on the Old Telegraph Track

I'm a BFG fan and they are 265 70R16s or 31 inch. I reckon they are probably the best all rounder tyre and I get around the 90000km from them.

D40 on the Old Telegraph Track

Yep sure did both in the cab and in tub. The water in the cab only happened because I was parked in the lake for a good 15 minutes setting up the winch and water also got in when I opened the door.....a necessary evil I'm afraid. No real problem though as all was dry again in 2 days.

D40 on the Old Telegraph Track

Just thought I'd share a few pics of my recent trek along the Old Telegraph Track on Cape York. I had to recover a couple of times.....sunk in the mud in Logan's Lagoon (just to the south of Nolan's Brook) and did a self recovery out of Cannibal Creek. As we all know the D40 is not the...

    Diff Lockers air vs electric

I've had an ARB rear air locker fitted for 4 years now and used it everytime I go off the beaten track. My compressor is fitted under the passenger seat and I can pump all tyres from there. When I need to air up my camper tyres I decouple....no big deal. When I installed the rear locker the...

    Spacers & Shackles, appearance only....

You could be declared unroadworthy in New South Wales......and no doubt your insurance company could also wipe you if you install extended shackles. See attached.

How to seal rear tub around tail gate on a d40 with a canopy?

I've used a product available from Clarke Rubber to block the gaps around my tailgate. It is a sticky-back low density foam about 50mm wide and 10mm thick. It works reasonably well and would certainly block out whatever you would experience going to Yadboro SF. I've crossed Australia through...

    Is my DPF Blocked !

Agree entirely Tony. I now have 101000km and mine is working fine. Still a bit bloody thirsty though at around the 13.5 ltrs/100km mark combined.:confused3:

    Issues in the fuel line

Had a similar problem....my fix was to toss the fuel tank and fit a new one that is manufactured from aluminized steel.....not the solution for everyone though as this is quite and expensive fix. Check out this thread http://www.navara.asia/showthread.php?t=16946

    D40 service

I took this matter up with Nissan directly....the dealer was talking every 5000km but I figured with modern technology and the hyper expensive fully synthetic engine oil (mine is an auto with a DPF) that it should be at least 10000km between services.....Nissan agreed and so too did the dealer...

    D40 Water Watch

I've had a water watch fitted to my D40 for about 3 years now and it has saved me no end of grief. I must've run over the proverbial "chinaman" in a past life as I've now picked up heavily contaminated diesel (with water) on 3 separate occasions. On only one of these has the fuel company come...

Choosing a Long Range Fuel Tank

Yeah Tony that requires the OEM tank to be in place....I no longer have that tank - haven't since my D40was 2 week old...so I have to fit a replacement tank. The one I've chosen is this one: http://www.longrangeautomotive.com.au/products/detail/flypage/112-navara-2005-d40-diesel.html?pop=0&sef=hfp

Choosing a Long Range Fuel Tank

Yeah can't fault the design and mounting and I've definitely no rust on the outside but the rust inside the tank is something else. Mine is definitely not aluminised steel - just painted on the outside and I don't really know what the original coating on the inside was....if any. Some rust...

Choosing a Long Range Fuel Tank

Yeah they have a good rep but unfortunately for the D40 they only make an auxiliary tank that is installed above the spare wheel. Long Range Automotive on the other hand make a 150 ltr tank that replaces the OEM tank. Both these manufacturers use aluminised steel for their tanks.

How much fuel to cross the simpson desert

It is about 510 km from Birdsville to Mt Dare (give or take 5 km) - these are the obvious fuel stops. Birdsville to Dalhousie is around the 440km mark and it is a further 70km from Dalhousie to Mt Dare.

Choosing a Long Range Fuel Tank

I tossed the original poly tank so I could fit a large (double the capacity) tank. My ute is totally built out in the back an there is no room to carry jerries. I didn't like the aux type tanks that Long Ranger make (sold through ARB) so went with the big OL tank. The new aluminised steel...
