Hi There,
I've recently had my 2003 D22 Navara stop. I took it to the mechanic and they told me it was an injector pump.
I was able to source a used pump from facebook and they installed it for me.
After it was installed they told me that it still had the same issue, it wouldn't start and still give the same injector pump code.
On further inspection they told me that the pump I had purchased was a different pump and that it wasn't compatible with the ecu in the car. the pump number that was in the car ended in 4080 and the new pump that I supplied ended in 4027.

After calling a diesel specialist they have told me that I will need to change the ecu in the car to match the pump.

Can anyone tell me which ECU I need to change and where I'd find one?

Thanks Cam

whats the actual injection pump code that it was showing?
there has been a lot of mechanics who say its the pump when its actually not.

i have heard that they needed matching ecu's but theres been a few people on here who have used mismatched ecu's without a problem.

really need to make sure it is/was a pump issue.
also that the 2nd hand pump wasn't faulty to start with. pretty common for people to scam others by selling their old faulty parts.

the pump codes are as follows.
original pump on car: ZEXEL 109342-4080
Purchased pump:ZEXEL 109342-4027

I am still in contact with the guy I brought the pump off, He has told me that the motor was still running that the pump came off (it had a bad head) and that he was told that the pump had been overhauled recently.

The mechanic also confirmed that the pumped looked in good condition and looks as it has been overhauled/refurbished recently. I have noticed that the purchased pump looks as though the 7 on the end has been stamped over a 0, possibly when overhauled.

I have contacted the mechanic to get the code and will post when received.

thanks for the reply
Cam

Code 73 is the code it is throwing
Bailey deisel is the company my mechanic is using for advice.
7030 Injection pump control unit receives incorrect voltage signal
from ECM continuously.

that sounds more like faulty wiring or possibly ecu.
the manual gives the voltages on the pin outs to check.
i would check wiring first. especially earths. also if you have a dual battery setup, disconnect the 2nd battery.

two injection pumps with the exact same fault ??? or the mechanic didn't diagnoses it properly.

The mechanic also confirmed that the pumped looked in good condition and looks as it has been overhauled/refurbished recently.
on refurbed pumps they replace them with the same IP ecu anyway. the IP are used in a few different vehicles and afaik the rebuild kit (which has new pump ecu) is all the same.

Thanks Very much for the responses, I have passed this info onto the mechanic and they are following up.

Looks like this is becoming too big of a job for my mechanic, After 7months with the car, 3 injector pumps and many promises to have the car running, I've decided to pick the car up and fix it myself.

I'm sure it will make sense once I make a start, however, if I could get some guidance on checking earths and testing the ECU that would be great.
I'm no newbie to working on cars, however, this has been a work vehicle and its been serviced by this mechanic for practical reasons and lack of time, so I'm not real familiar with working on Navara's.

Thanks Cam

You should never fit a pump without having it bench tested! 3 pumps 🤯

Read the manual, it's all in there.. Are you sure it was the pump In the first place?

Good point, but if you are relying on a mechanic to do the work you might expect them to do that I imagine.
How do you do a bench test BaW?
Can we do that in our shed?
If I can do this myself, can I check a second hand unit easily enough before buying one on gumtree? This might be a lot cheaper than getting an exchange recon pump

Tweake is onto it.. you need a Bosch Specialist...

Exactly, the mechanic should at least suggest you get them bench tested...

Like do many other threads, there is no resolution to the problem. Would be nice to know if it was IP problem or something ridiculously simple like earths.
