Got a question I'm trying to build up my d40 to get it out wheeling ASAP so grabbing what I can used. I'm trying to hunt down a second hand towbar however doing research I'm seeing a lot of posts about a recall on genuine Nissan towbars. Is there a way to avoid a dud or should I just fork out extra coin for new Nissan or some other company ?

Hi mate
I've got a tow bar you can buy if you want. only 12months old.
Genuine Nissan with bumper. I replaced it with a arb one.
I think the problems you have heard of was a problem with the chassis from towing heavy loads and Nissan would only warrant if it was fitted with a genuine Nissan bar.

Cheers Gav

Make sure whatever bar you get has 5 bolt holes on each side,
The ones that caused the issue's with the chassis only had 3.

As ourd40 says, look for a towbar with 5 holes. Three bolts go horizontally through each chassis rail, and two vertically at the rear.

You could look for an ARB rear bar liek Rasta's done that replaces the bumper, incorporates the hitch, provides 2x recovery points and ruins the day of the meathead that bumps into you in a parking lot.

Thanks to ourd40, i have the said rear bar for the parking lot suckers. They are also rated at 2500kgs towing. But in saying that, they are 3 bolt holes each side.
