Hi all. I've been asking many questions but I'm new and figure this is the place to get advice. Just bought a new 2013 Navara D22 ST-R with mostly stock stuff. Only mods are factory fitted snorkel, bull-bar and towbar with a dual battery under the hood. The stock tires are Bridgestone Dueler A/T 693's. I have yet to take it off-road but am deadly keen. I'm a weekend warrior that's planning to do things like Stockton, Turon NP, Bendethera, that sort of stuff. Does anyone have any experience with the stock tires and how well they cope? The Minister of Finance is already in shock so no more new adds or goodies for a while. I plan to upgrade a fair bit down the track when the stock tires wears down enough. What would a recommended tire be for a bit more grunt for muddier and wet terrain? Bear in mind it's stock suspension and no lift. Cheers.

Pete whilst they refer to them as a a/t they are very basic a good tyre in sand but useless in mud the 697 is a better tyre but still hates mud you will find the stockers rooted by 35k and bloody dangerous in the wet for the moment if you travel with a buddy you should be fine save up for bfg a/t they will serve you well.

Mate I found the stock 693's were good in the scrub when new but as they wore down they become very slippery in the wet.
I got 60k out of the 693's before I fitted some Hankook Dynapro AT-M's. Bang for your buck they have an aggressive tread pattern that is a good 15mm deep.
Check them out, at only $223 per corner, they don't break the bank either.
So far I have done 20k on them and they have only just worn below the little barbs that come on new tyres.

Thanks all, a little disappointed yet not unexpected. Pretty standard with stock gear I suppose. Can't afford a change so will ride these until such time for a changeover to something better. Having said that, from the comments, I presume tackling easy to medium stuff without mud/wet weather, beach driving and the odd river crossing will be fine?

Your tyres will be great on the sand, as for everything else just remember to air down and they might surprise you.

Cheers Brad

I agree, they're actually pretty good for many things except heavy mud ( i've been rolling on a used aftermarket set for over a year now ), a pretty good tyre to come out on a stocker, if you're going to explore with another experienced driver and vehicle don't be afraid to get out there, they're LT rated so you're not rolling around on rubber bands, just save for when they wear out and then buy a more aggressive tyre if you like.
