Hi all folks, have a new D22 ST-R 2013 model. Stock everything, no mods. Factory fitted towbar, bullbar, snorkel and 2 batteries. Planning to go to Turon National Park after Christmas which has some river crossings. Need some tech knowledge on diff breathers. Are the stock D22 breathers sufficient for crossings below tire height? Does anyone know where the brreathers finish up and how to identify them? Much appreciated, if I've missed a previous blog on this just point me in the right direction. Not sure if these factory fittings change much over time from the 2008 models onwards. Cheers.

The front diff, gearbox and transfer case all go up into the engine bay, there is a bent metal pipe near the brake booster which is where they come out. The rear goes up into the cross member above the spare wheel I believe,so that one is probably worth extending either up into the tub or the engine bay with the other ones...

rear one depends on model. in some models the rear one connects to the gearbox/transfer breather line.

OK folks cheers all. I have no idea how I can include a pic yet but I think I did find the rear diff breather end point. It sits just underneath the tray chassis just level with rear wheel height. It finishes into a small metal recess encasing so I suppose as long as I enter water no higher than that I'm OK? Otherwise get an extension…..

Remember, the water would have to be pressurised to enter the diff,,,,as its basically a closed system..problem comes if the diff air cools down and you are sitting in a river...also...you dont have go into water deeper than the wheel--water will be splashed up

Thanks to all the replies. So I've just bought a Piranha Diff Breather extension kit ready with 7m of hose and a few attachments. Plan to install it myself for the rear only, feel comfortable to do so. I understand the front diff breather is high enough. I've seen that there are 2 metal extensions in the engine bay, left and right. Which is which? I assume one is the front diff breather, is the other the gearbox breather?

I have a further question, when I remove the rear diff triangular metal cage (sorry, proper component name escapes me) that's attached to the chassis under the stock tray, do I reposition that at the highest point in the engine bay or is it technically better to attach the provided barb to the breather tube with a filter attachment? Dumb questions I know but want to do it right and I'm only just getting to know the car. Cheers.

Done the install, pretty happy with it. Ran the hose along the left chassis bar and kept it away from moving parts and the exhaust heat. A tiny bit of play attaching the hose to the diff nipple as the width of the hose was slightly more than the factory fitting. Put 2 clamps on it, can move it slightly sideways but not up and down so expect this should be watertight. Anyone else experience this? Fed the end into the engine bay on the right next to the gearbox breather and attached an air filter. Feel more comfortable going through some wet now.
