Stereo Customisation

Ok sorry if someone has posted about this already..

I am looking to do a mass stereo upgrade for my 09 Navara St-R and I need help. I currently have a single-din(?) pioneer head unit with factory speakers.
I am hoping to put something with a screen in for navigation/dvd purposes. From research I have found that there is a single din 7inch slide out screen units, however I am wondering if it is possible to fit a double-din head unit in if I was to also remove the storage compartment underneath the current head unit.

Sorry if I have confused anybody I am very confused myself but being the typical P Plater I want a decent stereo

Yeah double din unit will fit straight in, thats what they come out with

09 didn't, they only had the single unit. You can fit a double din unit, you may need a different mounting bracket though, I'm not sure how the single unit and pocket are mounted into the dash
