Steering sticking. 08 D40 stx.

Did some mud water crossings a couple of days ago now steering feels sticky at certain points. I have pressure washed underneath twice. Seems to be getting worse with a squeaking noise appearing in the steering wheel. Any help appreciated.

There's a join in the steering column that you can reach in the engine bay. Just below the brake booster grab the steering colum and try to move it. There's a locating pin and a retainer in the join of the shaft - on mine, the retainer broke which caused the steering to misbehave but still operate. It's not dangerous, but requires attention. According to my Nissan dealer, it was a known problem.

Or is it in the first rubber boot area. It looked like it spun before grabbing the lower part

It's the lower arm, below the rubber boot on mine.
