Hey all,

I need to get my D40 serviced as it is up for the 40,000. how close to that point does it need to be done. I just realised how much it actually costs and nearly fell over.

40K needs to be done at 40K, there is obviously leeway when it comes to warranty claims but there is no set figure that would be accepted under all circumstances. As far as being done for any other reason, as long as it's done before the 50K the 40K will be fine.

Take the thing to an independent, Nissan are way to expensive for the 40K and they will probably tell you that the pads and rotors need replacing as it seems to be a favourite suggestion whether they actually need it or not. When I did my 40K the parts cost me less than $250 (genuine parts), and Nissan wanted $1400 because I wasn't including in the capped price servicing, it's a huge difference and worth considering.

I had the 10k service at Nissan because i needed a few things fixed under warranty, but had my 20k at my mechanic. It was $104 cheaper and my mechanic didn't overfill it with oil like Nissan did (they then went on to tell me that it is a difficult process on the 2.5 blah blah BS, but that's another story)

Thanx Guys,

I have looked around at pricing and i am looking at lowest of $800 atm. Issue with them is i dont know what they are like with diesels and i want good work done.

I think i may go to a 4wd specialist and see what they say.

I winced when my 40K came around. Then I had a look at what is in the owners manual about what is supposed to be done. Things like regrease wheel bearings, c'mon, really. Maybe if I drove in water regularly. Then there were other things that just didn't need doing, can't remember what now, but I knew they didn't need doing.

Took mine to a reputable grease monkey, I supplied the filters and oil and I think I paid around $250.00.

There is a few threads around that suggest doing the radiator squirt at 40K, while replacing the kinkajuice wont hurt if you are servicing by the book its not required until 80K. However if any dealer is quoting and doing a flush due to time and the price Nissan charge for their secret formula that will add over $150 to a service I would reckon.

G'day all,

Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd hijack this one instead given my question to other members was service related.

I have a 2011 D40 2.5 Diesel Auto Narava - it spends most of it's time on the motorway and occasionally performs the function it was purchased for, ie, towing a horse float - which it does brilliantly. My VT Commodore was getting past this task (at 310,000 Km) so now the wife can tow safely and securely and I don't have to worry about her on the road.

It doesn't get much work, so little in fact that I'm now getting it serviced based on time (six months, as per the warranty requirement) rather than by Km traveled.

I've been getting the vehicle service by the dealer simply (and only) because it's a requirement of the extended warranty I have, an extra 3 years although as you can imagine it covers less than the factory warranty.

However the simple fact is than I have absolutely no confidence that these clowns are doing the job right. I feel that if I continue to take the vehicle there, I'll need the extra warranty. It's not the cost of the service which is the issue but the half-arsed way the vehicle is serviced. I recently had the 30,000K service done (at 26,000K) and 2000K later the, and I'm quoting here "Customer complained [yeah, like I'm the problem] oil leak at motor. Confirmed oil leak, found oil filter to have internal fault causing leak".

My translation of that is this: Poor workmanship being disguised as a parts failure. I'll concede that a filter body might possibly not be crimped to the base correctly but an "internal" fault that causes an external leak? FFS!

My question to others, and in particular to those more experienced than I with Navaras (or Nissan) is this: Realistically, Am I going to need this extended warranty? Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Eric

No one can answer that for you. Many of us have gotten by without extended warranty but there are plenty who have had it and used it. You have to convince yourself it's worth handing over the cash and sticking to their guidelines it's not really somethings someone else can convince you of. I don't think any thread related to extended warranty on this forum has given a definitive answer one way or another on the subject.

I had the dealer do the 40,000k service on my D40 last month for a little under $800.

Seeing as it is a major service and the vehicle is an auto with a DPF, therefore requiring low ash oil (for additional $$) I didn't think the price was too bad.

Dealer says coolant gets changed at 80,000ks.

It doesn't matter what make of vehicle, all major services are expensive and often, but not always, more expensive when done by the dealer.

I've got an extended warranty and have just about given up worrying about not getting it serviced at Nissan and if that will create any troubles with my warranty, as I'm almost 100% sure now that it won't.

Sounds to me like you're worrying about something that you don't need to worry about.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Seems like a lottery ;)

My extended warranty ("premium package") is only valid provided the vehicle is serviced by the dealer who issued the extended warranty. It also covers a lot more, for longer - it expires 2017 or at 160,000km.

Is that a Nissan extended warranty or a dealer specific warranty?

It'd be hard to keep the vehicle serviced by the same dealer if you moved interstate.

The simple fact is that most dealers, and I say most sparingly, can NOT be trusted, close friend of mine took his car in for a regular service interval, after he payed his $300, they informed him that he needed his head gasket changed and various other things radiator hoses etc, they were ready to take his card over the counter right then and there and charge him $1300, he however was skeptical and decided to come back at a later date, on the way home he stopped in at a local mechanic and had his car pressure tested, and hoses inspected etc, long story short, there was NOTHING wrong with his car at all.
Stealerships cannot be trusted most of the time, one needs to find a good local mechanic and show loyalty and he will look after you.
Or do things yourself:)
KK Rant over sorry guys...

i have my capped price service 40k next Friday.
their board on the wall says $886 its always a touch under,
I always confirm via phone the days before to ensure they dont try pull a swifty on me :)
