Just sitting on my ass at work thinking what i could do to the Nav, and had an idea and want some input, was thinking of removing the rear bench and replacing with two bucket seats and a fridge inbetween, Wouldnt even need to use Nav front seatc but maybe something out of a smaller softroader. brackets would be easy enough to rig up safely just not sure if legal without a certificate.
Questions i have:

Do you think there would be room (both forward and sidewards)??
What would the legalities of this be??
Has anyone done this yet??

I may have to ring the RTA, but i`m assuming it would require a cert as the plate states that its a 5 seater not a 4 seater. Could be an expensive mod. Any other inout anyone can think of??

My Mrs brother has taken the rear seats out and put the same as the front seats in the back and in the middle he has a twin sub set up looks pretty phat not sure what he went through to get it done tho

Bucket seats take up a fair bit of room, I'd wonder if they'd be worth putting in the back - even of a D40, which has something like 175mm extra room back there. Your side-to-side space will be similar to up front, so you're looking at a 6-can cooler rather than a fridge.

If you grabbed a 40L Engel/ARB/Waeco (in that order) fridge you'd be able to fit that between most passengers in the back but up on the bench.

With a change to buckets, you'd have to change seatbelt mounts (recertification), seat mounts (recertification) and seating capacity - the reduction of which won't need certification, but would be noted on your rego papers and probably incurs a fee for a bureaucrat to press a few buttons.

I'm with Tony, buckets take up a heap of space that the back of a 22 just doesn't have, I mean just look at the rake angle of a comfortable seating position in a bucket and try to imagine the loss of leg room, nice try though for thinking outside the square. The best use of the back of a D22 cab is storage without a seat imo.

How about instead of the buckets, have the bench middle section cut out to fit a fridge in? You would prob have to add some supports to the 'cut' ends and have them re upholstered but you prob get it to look pretty neat. Put your fridge on the backseat before you cut it to see if you have room.

Yeah i figured there would be a bit more to it Old Tony, and your right about the space and size of the fridge i was looking at it this morning on the way to work.
glc - Thats not a bad idea but i would still face the same issues that Old Tony raised, hmmm would have to look into it some more.
