Had problems rear axle seals. 108k on the clock and now Nissan says needs new axle assembly, bearing, housing o-ring, rear drum and shoes. Is this common?

i'm wondering why it would need all those things.

what sort of axle seals problems have you been having?

towing won't make any difference. if its the axle tube thats crook then hit nissan up for warranty because its a manufacturing defect. unless you have hit something at speed and bent it.
or the stealership is trying to make money out of you.

most common cause is blocked breather.

Hello sir.
Just with 40.000km in my clock, Nissan detects a diff oil leak in my rear axel. They changed it under warranty.
Basically there is a oil seal with factory fault.
The part nr: 43252-4JA0A.

I found my rear oil seals leak at round 130K ( I think this is fairly common fault for a D23). The dealer only replaced the seals but need to replace the rear brake shoes (original) , as they were contaminated with oil......... drums where OK to use again after a degrease and skim.

If you rear brake pads are wet, I am sorry but you have to change all parts there. Not making the change could cause an accident
