Wondering how others towing with an auto have experienced re telling when torque converter is in lockup mode? ie gears/speeds etc..
With our 4 speed Pathy R50 it will lock up in 3rd and 4th (o/d) and it's easy to tell when in lockup mode.
But having only driven our new 2008 petrol auto D40 for a month and not yet towed, so far I've found it difficult to 'feel'/ascertain when the 5 speed auto is in lock up mode, no where near as easy to tell as was the case of our 4 speed Pathy R50. While getting vehicle 1000km service today sought advice from from service manager re what gears the torque converter will/can lock up in for the D40/R51 auto, was told that not only will it lock up in 4th and 5th (o/d) but it's possible under some circumstances for it to lock up in 3rd. Was told it's harder to tell when in lock up mode than was the case with the old 4speed Pathy R50, probably because of the closer g/box ratios and the far greater engine power/torque.
