New to site and having trouble with VQ 4lt,started to stall intermittently and eventually wouldn't start at all. Diagnostics wouldn't log unless it occurred when connected. Eventually mechanic got a read for cam speed sensor error which now replaced but can't get compression to cylinders(variable cam oil pressure?) and leaving plugs wet. Anyone had similar issue?150000 on clock and hasn't missed a beat until now. Any advice would be appreciated cos it's getting pricey and No-one seems to have a clue including Nissan

Welcome to the forum, Tiler. I hope we can help!

Has anyone made mention of the crank angle sensor? We've had some problems with these in our diesels. If that's out of kilter, neither a petrol or a diesel engine would run properly. If the crank angle sensor (CAS) was faulty, a working cam speed sensor would report correct values which would look wrong to the incorrect values coming from the CAS.

It would also result in injection times being out, and if the spark plugs are fired based on the data from the CAS, they'd be out as well.

They have the same engine in the D40 Frontier so maybe there is someone there that has heard of the problem
Unfortiunately there arent many VQ40 owners here and even less have had issues. In fact only one other comes to mind and that was a crank angle sensor issue after a clutch change.

It's a relay On the passenger side firewall that supplies ecu. Swap the demister relay to get out of strife and get it to dealer as it's a recall issue. Units must be coded to ecu so best use original dealer as they have eng vin etc on car.Nissan will tell you that they sent recall but buggered if I got one.anyone else with this issue please post, cheers.there is many cars left stranded last year cos they couldn't work out problem.Old Tony, your a champ and keep up the good work, many people must appreciate your inputs
