hi, new here. been keepin track of this forum and u guys convinced me to get a nav. picked up my 06 d40 stx today! love it! great to look at and better to drive. heres my problem, went to do a bit of 4wd just to test it out nothin serious, couldnt turn the bloody knob! the dial to select 2wd, 4lo n 4hi. it wont budge at all. i read the manual n it dosent mention anything else it just says turn the dial, says u can do it whilst drivn. wont even move if i take it out of gear. any ideas? any help much apreciayed

maybe the previous owner locked it up to stop his kids taken it bush bashin.

I'd be taking it straight back to the dealer. It should move freely. A turn from 2H to 4H is easy, and then you need to push it in to turn if from 4H to 4L.
You can turn it from 2H to 4H while moving but you have to stop to engage 4L (and you have to do certain things with brakes/gears depending on auto/manual). There's a sticker on or above the driver side sunvisor that explains how to do it.

Dodgy switch for sure,try hitting it with a hammer.That should loosen it up.
Sounds like it hasn't been in 4x4 for a while,when you engage after the hammer work just go easy at first to get things circulating again.

Thanks guys. Knowing that theswitch should move freely got me thinking... so I tried to force it, with no luck. Ripped the dash apart to get a look at it but didn't have the right size torx bit to get the switch out. Gave it a good love tap with the hammer... good as new, can't believe it
