Hi all, have been visiting the forum for a couple of months but have registered as a member tonight. Have learnt a lot, thanks everyone.
I have a question about sliders, I recently found a guy in Perth to make me some sliders, he did a great job but when I lifted the car using the hi-lift the other day it moved up about 10mm and put a small dent in the sill. When I put the car down it went back to it's original position. I suspect it is movement in the chassis itself and not the sliders bending. Has anyone else had an issue with this?. The guy who made the sliders welded two brackets to the chassis on each side with 4 bolts per mount.

Welcome to the Forum, what Nav are the sliders on? im thinking D40?
I have had a set of sliders made by one of the forum members on here ("Scotty bobcat") which have ben on both my Thai Built and Spain Built D40's, i use the highlift all the time to lift the entire side when changing from muddies to Stockers and they only move about 1-2mm, i actually mounted them with only 5mm clearance and haven't had any probs even off road when landing on them.

in that case i cant say as i never had sliders on my D22.

Do your sliders have a triangular gusset between the vertical plate that mounts to the chassis and the horizontal tube that the outer section is welded to? (if you know where i am talking about)

Also how many mounting points are on each side?

can you post up some pics of the sliders and how the mount?

Like Nathan I too have Scotty sliders
I can lift one side of the car up with a hilift and the sliders aflex bout 2mm
lsounds like yours have a fair bit of flex and need more supports/gusetts
If its your chassis flexing then you have a serious problem
Maybee Scotty with his experiance can shed some more light

Yes, there are triangular gussets and there are two mounting points per slider. Have attached a photo. Mounting points with 4 bolts each have been welded to the chassis and the slider is bolted to the mounts. I may have to try to fix a straight line under the car and lift it again to see if I can work out where the movement is.

They look ok, it may just be that "scotty's" sliders have three mounting points per side so they dont flex at all really.

Okay, thanks for that, will try to work out where the flex is during the week and let you know.

besides only having two mounting points they also appear to be slightly shorter in length, my mounting plates are basically the same height as the chassis, and my plates that are welded to the chassis are flat and not c shaped like yours.

Also how thick are the plates that are welded on and also the ones on the sliders them self?

here is one of three mounting points on mine as made by "Scotty Bobcat"

I'm thinking the problem that you're having with so much movement is that the sliders aren't mounted hard up against the chassis. I reckon the movement that you're getting is through the movement of the mild steel mount welded onto the chassis that your sliders mount to. That will be getting a twist in it when you have a ton off it. To solve the problem you could cut the plates off your chassis and make some flat plates that bolt over and under your chassis and weld your slider to those plates.
I hope this helps you out and good luck with it.

Cheers Scotty
