Gday to one and all just bought a d40 with 123k on the clock thai built king cab and have read a lot of negative press about the timing chain issue however I think that some people have undoubtedly had dramas mine runs as smooth as the proverbial babies backside which I think people dont hear enough about

Welcome mate!, it's good to hear your having a hassle free run there certainly is many in the same situation. Tony ran a poll a while back I think it was 8 failures out of 42 replies. Some of the pom's with the earlier model D40 report upwards of 500k untouched apart from routine servicing.

More info is coming to light on those chains - and it looks like the Thai builds didn't have the weaker chains in them, just the Spanish cars from 2006(ish) to Dec 2009.

Well that's encouraging news! Still no probs, noise or rattle from mine when cold or any other time so far.
