Hi guys,

I have a 2000 d22 nissan navara non turbo, non 4wd.

When i start the engine when its cold and then try drive it, it cuts out. And then is hard to start and i have to rev it and lots of black smoke comes out the back.

However if i let her warm up then she is fine. Its just annoying when i am in a rush. Have only replaced the fuel filter and oil filter in last 2000kms.

Any ideas?

glow plugs mate, there still a pre combustion engine. 50 or $60 at repco will sort it. hence why it runs fine when its warm

When a diesel engine is cold, the compression process may not raise the air to a high enough temperature to ignite the fuel. The glow plug is a heater that heats the combustion chamber and raises the air temperature when the engine is cold so that the engine can start.
