lots of smoke & oil out exhaust

not the nav,

a tractor at work. blowing a heap of white smoke and a heap of black oil coming out of the exhaust pipe. only 800hours old.

it doesn't look too good. luckily i didn't have anything to do with it.

whats the likely cause?

Leaky injector? I've had this happen to a generator at work and it ended up just being over fueling from a leaky injector

White smoke is usually an injector stuck open, or opening at the wrong time (CAS slipped). Diesel fuel is oily anyway, and partly burnt diesel is black (soot) so I'm thinking the CAS is probably okay if it's firing, but an injector could be stuck or damaged. Water in the fuel could do it.

sounds like the turbo has failed.
oil tends to partly burn and make white smoke.

or crankcase breather is blocked and its blowing oil past the turbo seals.
