G'Day, Had my new D40 King cab STX 3 days and have to say... What a great piece of kit! drives like a Limo, the only difference is when I push the peddle on the right something happens. T'Misses got a new Subaru for Xmas and the build quality of my truck leaves it for dead. One question- Run-In strategy (no info from dealer) And unbraked towing- Boat weighs 850kg, do I need to fit brakes?.

how ya going mate and welcome to the forum.

as for run in. just drive it like normal but try to keep the revs under 3000rpms untill after your 1000km service then you can drive it like its under warranty

Welcome to the forum, Bob.

In Australia, the heaviest trailer you can tow without brakes is 750kg. Above that, you could use inertia brakes (wait, I'm choking on the bile here, I hate those things) or electric brakes for anything heavier. If you go over 2,000kg, you must also have a breakaway braking system which is essentially a battery that powers the electric brakes if the trailer is separated from the vehicle.

If your boat weighs 850Kg, the trailer will weigh in the order of 300-500kg so you're looking around the 1200kg region - definitely need brakes. If you're fitting electric brakes, make sure they use 6 sq mm cable to provide the power, and use a 30A thermal reset breaker too.

As for driving it during run-in - see above. Your diesel won't actually be "run in" for another 14,000km or so anyway - but they're designed to work, so just let 'em do what comes naturally.
