Hi guys, can anybody supply me with a K&N part No: for an air filter to suit 2007 D40 Navara 2.5 CRD. Spoke to a couple of Auto store, they said not supplied. K&N web site list 33-2080. Just wondering if anybody is using the above mentioned part number.
.
Cheers MG.

i wouldn't. stick to paper filter.

simply reason for it is most highflow filters let more dust through which can foul the MAF sensor. MAF runs turbo, egr and fuel. if it reads wrong at worse case motor blows holes in pistons. otherwise it just runs like crap.

if you really want highflow then fit bigger airbox and filter.

Sorry mate I gotta agree with Tweakes, those aftermarket air filters do more damage then good. Factory is the best for the longetivity of the engine.

Dave.

g'day, K&N part No 33-2080. i have one in a 2006 D40 and it works well, been using oiled air filters for years and K&N are they easiest ones i have come accross to clean and re-oil.

Thanks guys, good to see two points of view. I will follow up on the dust screening capacity of the K&N.
Cheers MG.

one small thing......
useing oiled airfilters on older motors is no problem. its simply the new motors that run MAF sensors and especialy variable turbo's. older motors either don't have EGR or the MAF is often used for emmision control are not really effected all that much.
variable turbo and use of large amounts of EGR is the spanner in the works.

there is a reason they clean the MAF sensors reguarly on modern diesels.

I have used them for years. Just degrease your AFM, not sure about MAF sensor if its the same sorta fly by wire which needs the filter oil cleaned off it...

I have been useing K&N in my cars for years and have never had any problems with them, and they definately get the air flow in better

Interesting read because Nissan actually recommended me to use an aftermarket oiled air filter because of the amount of dust going through the genuine one.

Ive always run K&N oiled, havnt tested them on dirt though. LOVE THEM on my road cars! My mate has one in his 200 series and on his last trip through the simpson, degreased it couple times, washed over night and stuck it back in.

Is cleaning the MAF sensor something I can do in my front yard or is this a job for the Mechanic.

Also, I sent the wifey down to Supercheap Auto today to get a paper filter and she was told they don't sell air filters to match the TD D40 Navara. Is there something special about the Navara Air filter that similar shaped filters can't do, or was the guy in the store confused?

I answered that for you in your other thread Escapee and the answer is that the guy was either confused or stupid.

I can't believe you needed to post it the SCA store should have given you the answers you needed. My SCA is friggen hopeless (I know the manager and even he'd consider that a compliment) but even they have the Ryco book hanging next to the filters that shows the air filter, the cabin filter, the oil filter and the fuel filter, they only ever have the air filter in stock but atleast the book is there, it's where I got the numbers to put in the part thread.

I think I paid $22 trade for my OEM filter and I've got two on the go, I change them each service and get the cleaner to clean out the one I remove and the previously cleaned on goes in for 10K, the cleaner reckons on average I'll get 6-8 cleans out of a filter with the conditions I drive in.

Totally agree no ifs or buts.
If you 'care at all 'bout your engine' and will be doing dirt tracks, not worth the risk.

K&N are good for high perf street & racing use and with regular cleaning.
Sorry but I would never recommend those filters for the common bloke with a forby.

:cheers!:

I take a slightly different view. While I agree that the oiled filters are better dust collectors I simply would NOT fit one in the air box of my D40 (or any other modern diesel for that matter)...Why? because no matter what fine bits of oil will foul you MAF and it can be a real bastard to clean and can also cause havoc with the smooth running of your donk. I have seen oiled filters (Finer Filters brand name) installed upstream of the paper filter in the neck of the snorkel.....these tend to trap the dust. My preference, however, is a Donaldson tophat high flow filter for trapping dust. My two bobs worth.

A more important question should be, "Why do so many people need to give their two bobs worth?" Surely with the cost of living, CPI, inflation etc we should be up around the $2 mark by now.

Two bobs aka a nudge and a wink aka IMHO aka for what it's worth aka WGAF .... haven't you head that inflation is static and has been since John Winston Howard and Peter Costello turned us into a bunch of penny pinchers

Ok then,
I'll start giving my free advice,
though I'm sure some mightn't like it.......:sarcastic:

:cheers!:

Well I'm not paying for your advice Krankin (I've run out of two bobs) but I gotta say when it comes free it's always worth reading.
