Just wondering if Iam doing the right thing by installing the ALDI winch upide down. I looked at the thread where Old Tony said he installed his this way and I agree that there is probably no other way it can go on the Factory Nissan bar without the spool feeding from the bottom at the same level as the fairlead attached to the bottom 2 bolts. Is this correct or do I have to go about it in a different way? I ave also noticed that the fairlead on the mk2 ALDI winch is different to mk1 and doesn't line up with the bottom bolt holes. Word is that they will replace it with the mk 1 fairlead if you ring them. Bought the winch today at the reduced price of $300. Great value I think from what I have read about them on different forums.

Yes they are.Bought mine at Mt Ommany Aldi (Qld) today. They were $400 last week and seriously considered buying one but left it alone. Went back today and they had reduced it to $300. Had to have it for that.

i had to install mine upside down (tigerz)
just undo a few bolts and rotate housing so lever is acessable

+1 for having the rope/cable feeding out the bottom.
I have a KINGONE winch and i just took the cap off the end. Which gave me access to the bolts that let the gearbox turn, just undid them slightly and spun it to the spot i needed so i could reach the free spool lever.

Hey all just to add to the discussion, I work for ARB and for the bulk of our bars we move the fairlead mount holes down 25mm from the original points.

Also all the winches we mount have the cable pulling from the bottom of the drum not the top.

Because Warn winches are packed for the US market and typically they mount flat on a cradle or in the bar we always rotate the gearbox and usually the motor as well.

Thanks for the info guys. Will probably wait until I get the new fairlead to install it.Will also try to source longer bolts and someone to help me bechpress it into position. Must have turned a bit wimpish in my old age but just dont want 38 kgs between my teeth. Will also have a look at rotating the gearbox as well. Can it be installed with the bar still on the car? Hope so.

From what i have herd some people have been able to get away with it.
I decided to not bother, and just took the bar off, which didnt take long at all. From memory it was only four bolts either side.

I've got the Mark I winch, I think one of the few differences between them is an isolator switch (which I remedied myself at Jaycar for $17.95 or so).

I removed the protector plate and lifted the winch into place myself. It was a little bit of effort but having nobody else around to help sort of limits your choices to "take it somewhere and pay someone else" and "shuddup and just bloody do it". 38kg on one hand and a HT bolt plus spanner in the other was an interesting exercise!

I had to get two bolts 5mm longer than supplied and 2 bolts 10mm longer. There's a specialist hardware place near here that flogs 'em for about $0.50 each.

As for the clutch position, it can't be changed on mine - the housing that contains the mechanism is a permanent fixture to the winch's own frame, unlike the Tigerz and Ironman etc which have the allen-head bolts around the base of the housing that allow you to turn it. I haven't looked closely at the new Aldi one yet. However, I don't mind that the clutch is not so accessible - out of sight, out of mind.

Iv had a Aldi 2011 winch in my d22 with Nissan
Bullbar and had nothing but dramas with it,
I think mainly the solenoids are cheap crap,

hey guys didnt want to start a new thread...
I ripped an old aldi winch off a wrecked disco and have replaced the solenoids and have installed it. Happy days...........except that the motor only runs in the 'out' direction. This was confusing as i ran the cable on as directed (from the bottom) and the out direction was spooling the cable on the winch.........so wtf?
I have checked the motor and its fine. i get voltage both ways, bushes look good all tested ok or so i thought...

also i should mention the control box is tigerz11 fully waterproof and in perfect nick.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tigerz11 solenoids are renown for failure even when brand new.

Is your solenoid made by Thomas? because Tigerz sell both and the Thomas ones are allot better and way more reliable.

Hope so cause I'm running a tigers control box on my warn winch, mine has the Thompson solenoid

It waste top I the range box they had so I'm hoping it's the Thompson solenoid.
I'll check today and see. If I switched around the black and yellow wires that should tell me
Wether or not the solenoid is ****ed shouldn't it if it only runs in the opposite direction....

so ive called tigerz11 (superior off road NSW) and they are giving me 2 new solenoids so i have a spare.....for free!
hopefully this is the end of my problems and the start of me winching out my mates' ranger and zook! lol.
