Inside airbox

Can someone tell me what this piece does inside the airbox, it's lost its tab's to keep it in place, i could use double sided tape but is it necessary or is it a baffle to keep the intake noise down, thanks for any replies

Some bloke did a thread about the air filter ages ago, dunno where the guy's gone but his post was a little useful.

That's a baffle, it helps minimise noise and may also inhibit water droplets from moving through.
