info on 3 litre turbo diesel

Hey I have a question to ask,hoping someone could help me.I'm looking at buying a 2003 str turbo diesel,and was wondering if 3 litre is the same as the patrol? Which I'm guessing is,and if so are they any reliable,cause I've been told to run away from Nissan 3 litres,thankyou guys.

same basic engine but without the variable turbo and control system and also less power output.
the after 03 models where a lot more reliable and the navara version is a lot more reliable than the patrol version.

Cheers mate,got me worried,its owned by a 63 year old man got 160klm on it log books etc,really clean navara for $15000,would of jumped on it not for the motor not sure what to do....grrrrr.
