Identifying these parts

Gidday Navara fans,
I have just purchased an 09 D40 dual cab ST-X auto turbo diesel rig.
It has 130k on the clock.
The previous owner has done some mods, some of which I am unsure of.
I purchased the truck through a car yard so i dont have contact with the previous owner.
There are 2 items under the hood which i dont know about. I think one is possibly a catch can and the other may be some sort of fuel filtering system. Can anyone tell me what these are and what maintenance is required?

I know its been a while since you posted this, but anyway... The first picture is a stanadyne diesel filter, this has a chemically treated filter element to help separate water from the diesel. The second one is a catch can of some sort by the looks of it. What type I couldn't say as there are lots of different ones, but it helps separate the oil from the blow-by gases that come out of the pcv valve and are circulated back into the inlet before the turbo.
