This is an interesting one.

Was playing music off my phone into my old HiFi via the 3.5mm headphone socket.

Everytime I shut down / turn off my D40 the music app on the phone explodes, stops playing music and doesn't show up on the Android 'task bar thingy' at the top of the display.

Wonder how safe it is to turn off the '40 near someone with a pacemaker?????

Be interesting to fire up a spectrum analyzer next to the ute and see what's coming out of it.

You mean the HiFi in you house?

Only thing that runs straight after shutdown is the EGR servo motor going thru it's paces. Maybe that's the culprit.

What phone make model are you running?if its new, some are able to sence the plug situation wheter it be a car dock ,desk dock or if you plug in headfhones/3.5mm plug.they also disable the current mode when you unplug....is it mabee a samsung galaxy 3 or 4?

Yep Galaxy S2.

Had it running off it's battery, with a lead from the 3.5mm headphone socket into the AUX port of an old HiFi I have in the shed.
