Hi to all. My first Navara (D40 dual cab) and suprised how comfortable it is. Have been reading some postings about bullbars, looking at getting alloy as am concern about the weight.

Hello and welcome KINREDJ

depends what you want to do with the Navara.

If you want to go bush at all, dont discount the fact that one day you may want a winch. That being the case, go straight for a Winch compatable Steel Bar.

the front of the Nav can certainly handle the bit of extra weight difference between an alloy bar vrs a steel one.

Welcome.

The weight difference betwen an alloy and steel bar is not as large as you might think. Personally I think Alloy bars shouldn't be sold as they don't do thier job - ie protect from animal strike, rather people get them cause they are a good bit of bling.

Actually I chose the Alloy because the alloy bar will fold and absorb much of any impact. The steel bar will transfer the impact force direct onto your chassis rails.I know this will start yet another way but thats what I have always been lead to believe and have had Alloy bars on 3 previous trucks and so far have written off 2 bars but no trucks

And given that an alloy bar (or more importantly the bits behind the bar) can be made to handle a winch that comment is as sound as any. Steel bars usually will take more of a pounding that alloy but anyone who thinks a steel bar wont bend in the advent of an animal strike is not taking into account all animals in the bush. Even a five foot red can bend a steel bar if you hit it hard enough or in the right place, let only hitting an eight foot red or something like a cow.

Yes, dont be fooled into thinking a steel b/bar wont wrap it self around an animal standing in front of it when your barreling down the road at 110kph.

I chose steel for the fact, ready made to fit a winch, repaired/added to easier and less susceptible to minor dings,
and mostly to not spend a weekend polishing my bling.
