Fuel filters

how effective is the standard fuel filter on the D22 2.5 diesel? After purchase I have been told of all the faults and failures---mainly by the armchair mechanics -----BUT one rang true that the engine failures that this fellow had seen were based on bad fuel--dirty or water contamination---to me this is really a failure of the filtration system so the question?????

stock ones are so-so. i see a lot of people fitting an extra fuel filter or even just a sedimenter. strangely enough nissan installs a sedimenter in the overseas D22. they must think we have good fuel or something.

rustynav fitted a stanadyne filter which apparently works well.
