Could someone please tell me what the error code 0297 is please. The EML came on when I was travelling on the freeway doing 120km/h. I had been driving for about an hour an a half at that speed. It has come on once before on the freeway when I first bought it and I took it to Nissan and they reset it and said there was nothing wrong with it. That was the first and last time I took it there. If someone could let me know I would appreciate it.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum!

0297 doesn't exist in the Navara, but it's normally "vehicle over speed". I know you can do that sort of speed - we've done 130km/h (with the van behind us, too) through the middle of Australia in the middle of summer and not had the code appear.

How did you get that code?

i followed some instructions another thread. Count the flashes of the engine maintenance light. I thought I observed 2 flashes followed by 9 followed by 7. After the initial slow flashes

The manual may not have the code, doesn't mean it's not actually there - the manual we've managed to get is for the 2005 Euro model, which covers MOST of the 2006-2010 Australian models until the 140kW version came out - even then, the cars are similar enough that it's a very decent guide.

Nissan (in the D40s which were Spanish built) follow the OBD-II standard for error codes. As said, 0297 is "vehicle over speed" (read about the code here). That doesn't mean the car can't make a mistake - and the OBD system should only be seen as a guide. I wonder if there's something wrong with the ABS sensors? Can you engage 4WD?
