Hi guys,
Please no stupid answers because yes I know it's a diesel but lately my d40 2.5 is rattling more than usuall when I put the boot into it. Not sure it's just had its 30000 service and I'm wondering if it's the tappets or what, not overly fussed just want to know if anyone else has had this??

mine is has more of a rattle then any other diesel i have owned, i thought it was injectors, then i thought it could be timing chain, But now after talking to heaps of guys and driving a couple of others i think its just how they are????....... i hope......

Mine has a rattle on start up and has done since new and it's a bloody belt, how a belt makes a rattling sound has got me stuffed but a bit of dry lube on the belt and the noise stops for about 15K.

Hey mate on my dads D40 his belt had a rustling noise on start up and we believed it was just a slipping belt so I sprayed belt glue on it and now it rattles like mad instead of rustling... Anyone know what the hell is the deal with that?

It may depend on the belt. The alt belt seems to make a noise on mine and dry lube fixes it for about 10-15k but apparently you shouldn't use dry lube or spray lubes on the serpentine belt. I don't know if using such products on the serpentine belt may make it rattle, I read the warnings before I tried it and it turned out not to be my serpentine belt but I guess it could be.

Ahhh man really? I thought that this belt glue spray stuff would fix it. Why the f*** is it all this complicated?? The belt made the rustling noise after Nissan replaced the alternator pulley because it let go...

I'm not 100% sure why only certain lubes can be used on the serpentine belt but some of the spray cans actually have the warning written on them.

We've done everything we can to the pulleys, mainly the alt pulley and we can't find a damn thing wrong it's been the same for 3 years but dry lube on the alt belt stops all the noise but engine noise. It's got us screwed why the belt makes it sound so rattley rather than a squeal.

Yeah this one didn't have a warning about anything except saying "do not spray on moving belt in case work belt grabs on pulley too much and snaps" something along those lines..

So with your belt does it make the rustly noise or squeal noise? Thanks heaps for your help/advice so far as well mate :)

Rattley, I've never heard a squeal come out of the bonnet of my car.....just those around me when I start driving.

No worries just don't take everything I say as gospel I could be wrong and leading you down the complete wrong path for your vehicle, bangs, rattles clunks and squeals aren't always an exact science

Oh and I am a little worried about your username, we all like 90's shows but most of us don't admit it :ha:

Haha fair enough then and yeah I won't hold anything against you if any of your advice leads me down a wrong path, I'll let racv deal with the problem now :p 90's shows are good as shows compared to some of the crap on tv these days, plus the username that I wanted was taken so had to settle for this one haha.
