EBAY Winches

Like it says Guys' I'm looking at "cheap" Ebay winches. I've been lamenting the fact that there are no ALDI stores in Adelaide so the ALDI $400 winch is unavailable to me. I figure even getting someone to buy me one and ship it over is gonna add maybe $100 to it so that's $500.
This one is 12000lb $471 delivered BUY IT NOW.

Don't know about the winch sorry but does that mean you managed to build a winch cradle for the alloy bar? I like the Tigerz11 winches but they cost a little more.

Same brand and rating as the one sitting in my shed.

The cast body is broken at one of the mount threads. Read into that what you will. I didn't break it so I don't know the story, I just bought it second hand to repair.

Nah, I'll get a winch first and then build a cradle

Now you're asking a tough question, will have to open the memory vault... eBay hasn't kept a record of the price and my email records stop a week after I bought it, so I don't know, I'm guessing about $130-170?

That winch you're looking at has a whole 30 day warranty.

Biggest shame about it is that you can't get someone heading over your direction to buy one and toss it in the tub for the trip, then reward them with winch cost + slab.

Come to think of it, there's an Aldi in Warrnambool and that's not that far over the border. I'd do that as a day run (but then I'm crazy like that). You could call them and see if they have one.

Do some research and you will find that they are known for failing.

When you need a winch, you NEED it to work. They aren't just a pretty thing hanging off the front of your vehicle so you can say to your mates "Yeah, she's got a winch"...

Recovery equipment is something you should never scrimp on.

Ive heard more good about the aldi winch then bad. Id go as far to say the only bad things ive heard about them have been from people that dont have them. Mine got abused over and over and over and over and over and after over 2 years done a solenoid, got a new solid state one to run it and abuse it some more. worth every $1 of the 500 i paid for it.
But thats talking about the old lots, duno about the new batch.

It's Horses for courses ant it. There is at least 1 "extreme off roader" here who runs a "cheap" aldi winch. Last I read he's used it about 20 times and given it hell and its never given any sign of trouble. Fact is, I'll NEVER be in a position to justify/afford a $1000 winch. Besides If I EVER put my family in a position that I need 20 recoveries, that will be the LAST time they'll let me take em off road
All I want is something that will help me when I'm stuck in sand or mud when I'm on my own. Basically a situation that may occur once a year tops. I've no plans to go into the simpson or enter tough truck and I am well aware that you only get what you pay for. There will be some brands out there that are made of stuff with the strength of chocolate. If you know of one, post it here.

winch on an alloy bar...thats a bit scary...or when making a cradle you make up brackets to bolt to the chassis? if the winch relies on the alloy bar when being winched out..i would be sh**ing meself.

yea i agree...cant see spending $900 on winch that prob never gets used. i had a landcruiser 80 series with warn winch...never ever used it..besides playing with it and making sure the thing still worked before 4wd trips.

There are quite a number of people who have bought them and found them to be quite reasonable, not just from this forum either. It's the only reason I went ahead and bought one myself.

Well time will tell.
I just won this on Ebay for $469 delivered. While there were some cheaper ones around, this one has 12 months warranty. The shipping back to NSW will probably mean I'll never claim on it, at least it says something toward their confidence in the product
