Hi all, Ive just had a new transfer case installed by Nissan, and now have a dull thud noise when coming to a complete stop. You can feel it rather than hear it, feels like some thing is readjusting to get set to take off again.
vq40 auto o6 model.
Car is back at Nissan , mechanic agrees that something not wright.
Any comments or advice please.

It's always good if the mechanic agrees there's something wrong. Not such a good sign that he's scratching his head over it.

More than likely it's a drive shaft not sitting properly.

I have exactly the same thing, mine has been doing it since brand new, didn't realize it wasn't normal!

I've always assumed that it has something to do with either the brakes or LSD as it seems to come from the back somewhere.

Mine is manual, so not likely to be your auto box!

I will investigate, but if Nissan figure it out, please let me know!

My old 07 used to do it and I always put it down to the drive shaft moving back and forth on the spline into the back of the transmission.

Would this be because of the rear suspension compression and extension as you accelerate and brake ? I usually notice it when I'm coming to a stop, but I'm pretty sure the same thing happens sometimes when I go to change from 1st to 2nd gear.

I've been doing some research and it looks like binding driveshaft splines are very common. Seems like it has to be pulled and given some moly grease, will give Nissan a call tomorrow and see if they will do it under warranty.
