Hiya!
I've recently put in a new headunit and wanted to add a reversing camera using the headunit as the screen. I have a couple of questions and a problem.
The problem is that on the Navara side there's no reverse or parking switch wire in or adjacent to the loom for the head unit. I've gathered that I need to a new cable to replace the existing one on the gearbox, but everything I've seen so far is just a straight replacement, not one that will branch off and provide a wire to the rest of the loom. I can hack it up but I'm trying to be tidy and not create a problem for future me. What I don't know is where does the plug actually start on the gearbox? How do you get to it? It doesn't seem to be on the top, I've had the plastic surround up and there's a loom running past it, but I'm not sure what that's for.
I could just wire it into the reversing lights but that's again a mile too far for me to want to fuck around with.
My proposed fix is to just wire the head unit's power in into itself to constantly make the head unit think the parking sensor is on (can't adjust parking guides without it), and do the same for the unit's reversing sensor but with a switch on the dash to enable it. This will let me flick it on anytime I want to look behind without needing to actually put it in reverse. This seems a LOT easier than getting down into the gearbox and adapting an existing plug and gives my passengers a neat toy when someone is tailgating us.
The camera I have is mounted on a license-plate surround. My other question is: how would you guys run the cabling from the bumper back to the cab, and are there any already grommeted ports in the body that I should probably run the AV cable through? I'm curious about that one bit of loom running past the gearbox, this is probably the path to follow. Anyone know where it goes/exits?
I pretty much never go offroad or into water anymore so I'm not too fussed about being overly water-tight, but I'll do my best.
