Yes they will work. You will need to get runner that are the same length as you drawers around 1400mm and they won't be cheap at this size. I am a cabinetmaker and can't get these cheap enough. I made a set of drawers and used HDPE as the runners. It's the same product that drifta use on there drawers. You can buy I as a sheet and cut it to whatever size you want. I used 10mm thick and it works awesome. A little silicone spray every now and then and they work a treat

The length of 1400 in the list for these runners say that it can hold 150kg. would that not be sufficent? just trying to design a set off a mates ute so i can put them in my ute as soon as i get it

I use those runners in all cabinetry and wouldn't use anything different for such jobs but I reckon in a ute they are overkill and price themselves out of the market. You don't even need ball bearing runners in a ute if you make it out of light enough timber and make it right.

In my oldman's BT we made a full length half width drawer with 12mm pine, ply inserts and a ply base and the drawer slides on two pieces of right angle aluminum. Works a treat and even with a tool box, angle grinder, welding rods and other such crap it in it's never jammed or been hard to slide.

yea mine is going to be a work/play ute, so alot of stuff in it, so i was going for heavy duty, was planning on making the structure from 25x25 steel tube, and then 16mm MDF and those as runners?

You'll run into the same problem Woody did, by the time he packed all his shit in his over engineered drawers he was over the weight limit of the vehicle.

It's obviously your choice but over engineering to me is just a waste of time and money that achieves little.

Have a look at WoodyD40's garage (I'm sure he is still a member). He made his drawers and storage out of 19mm marine ply from memory, he carted all his recover stuff and other such shit around on a daily basis. I'm sure somewhere there is a thread where he went into detail about what he carted and how much weight he had over the rear axle, when it got it weighed it even surprised him.

yea. wish i could press steel like Outback or Black Widow does. alot less weight that way. but even their draws say that weigh 108kg

Haha, i could do that, but if i did that id end up with a fridge and all sorts in there haha

19mm marine ply? Sheesh, you could make a boat out of that.

I'm only using 19mm form ply because it was all the hardware shop actually had when I had to make something fast last Easter. Stock list said it have three 10mm sheets of marine, but they reckon someone must have lucked out and received marine instead of normal ply.

As to the runners, shrug, locking is more important than anything else. there is no way you want to open the back tray and suddenly have a full or two half drawers in your lap because they just came out as your nose is high for some reason.

Also note that the longer runners do not carry as much weight <head skritch>.

when i rebuild my ute tub drawers, it will be a toss up of sliders or hdpe. There is no way I'm using beesway as lubricant again.

Any idea on what a 2400x1200 HDPE costs?

I have a drifts kitchen with the hdpe slides, works perfect every time, never a jamb or bind up

Just out of curiosity would these runners be any good for you guys that are making drawers? Im looking at making a set when i get a new ute, so any advice/plans would be great

Got given a set near identical to these about 18 months ago, which are around 1200mm in length.

At the time, I had my old SsangYong Dual Cab and they were some what too long for it's tub, but just the right length for the Navara's Tub, so glade I hanged onto them and not pass them onto anyone.

Just have to set aside some funds and time to make my own Draw System now, but finding the time seems harder then the build itself over the past 12 months. Am undecided on what material to make the draw itself out of, 10mm Ply Wood Base or light steel or aluminium to save on weight, the cost of having a draw made up out of light steel or aluminium thou may push it towards a all wood setup thou . . . hmmm
