My 06 I could sell today for the same price as a 2010 with less km on it. Zd30 is what you want. You can put an intercooler on and do egr block and bigger dump pipe and your laughing

I would go for the 3.0. I had one in the Patrol GU3 and now gone for the same engine but in the Navara.. You also dont have common rail (which I believe the consistency of Aus Diesel quality is not up to par with CRD injection requirements) I have yet to see the test of time with the YD 2.5 engine. I know of the 3.0 engine happily going over the clock but have not heard of the 2.5 doing that yet (im sure it can tho)

You also dont have the dual mass flywheel aswell.. need i say more?

06nav put it well. They are older (but proven) technology, easier to tune and maintain, less electronic which means more room for performance and economy improvments. The 2.5 seems to need alot of revs to get going off the line too, the 2.5 is just not ballys enough. I cant remember accelerating while releasing the clutch in my 3.0, it copes really well. I could get into a STR 2.5 for $29,999 drive away with tint and bar and ended up buying a 3.0 for $23,000 with 109k on the clock that 8 years old this month... 3.0 man, all the way!

The d22 2.5L doesn't have dual mass flywheel so that argument is useless.

Personally, I have the 2.5 and I love it. My suggestion is drive both and buy what you prefer.

the yd25 has had issues
so has the zd30(how mant patrols have exploded over the years?)
so has toyotas d4d
my yd25 has 50k on it and it hasn't missed a beat
oohh and they come with an intercooler
on another note one of my workmates has a 2008 yd25 with 170k on it
he is hopeless with services, once he went nearly 20k without an oil change
he jumps in it and drives off revving the ring out of it when its cold
he has no mechanical sympathy at all
its still running fine

Everyone has good and bad things to say or believe with both YD25 and ZD30. But I believe 06 would have to be one on the best ones as it was the very last nav released before the took them off the line and brought them back as a YD25

yeah nissan lost like 1/2 their sales in utes with it gone or something, just goes to show newer is not always better.

I am still a believer that a reincarnated D22 with the ZD30CR patrol motor and choice of auto/manual would be ****ing awesome, anyway my gripe with the YD25 in the D22 is its lack of power low down, the chain issues only really happen to the D40 owners who still claim there are no issues.

I've driven both. With good mods and a decent tune the 3l is a weapon. I personal have the 2.5L model and really enjoy driving it. Needs a chip and exhaust if you are gonna be running 32"+ tires. I never have an issue taking off from idle with no acceleration. Yes its a tad doughy at first but doesn't take long for it to pick up. As mentioned. Drive both and buy to your liking and budget. Also I have never had fuel issues in relation to failing injectors etc. I do use Fuel Doctor in every tank to combat that issue though

the seats in my D22 are more comfy then the recaro seats I had in my impreza when I was on my P's
