Hoping someone might be able to help. We have just gotten our 2007 navara d40 back from two different auto elecs(totalling over 4k) initially everything was great, running better than it ever had. Then bam- DPF warning light is back on.. ran the regeneration as advised, light went out after about 5 minutes, but limp mode seemed to temporarily engage, and it blew a shitload of smoke. Headed straight home, checked ecu error codes, none showing. Reset ecu, but now I'm just stressing out!!! Any clues???

There might have been more than one fault. There are several things to check.

1) If you have a performance chip, turn it off.

2) Examine the turbocharger actuator operation. Look at the little arm under the round gold thing sitting on top of the turbocharger (there's a pic of my engine bay in my garage with labels pointing to these things). While the engine is idling, the arm should move up and down about 3-5mm. If it's not, either your vac hoses are shot, or the turbo solenoid is shot.

3) Examine the vac hoses if you didn't replace them in step 1. Any that have started to harden or show signs of cracking need to be replaced.

4) Gently remove the MAFS from the air intake and clean inside the little slot with spray electrical contact cleaner ONLY - never, ever stick anything inside it, you'll ruin it.

5) Look around the hoses and joins between the turbocharger and the intake manifold (including the intercooler) for signs of black oil. You might have a significant boost leak and black oil is a sure sign of it (if you don't have a catch can fitted).
