I have seen some news on clutch problems I have a 07 stx d40 Have traveled 65.000 and towing 2.5t 23ft jayco van The van has been behind the d40 over 50.000 Because we are on the road full time p:cheers!:

Welcome to the forums Peter.

You're right about the clutch problems it's an issue that's been spoken about here quite a lot and many people seem to be replacing their clutches early especially those that tow but if your up over 60K I would suggest your doing pretty well compared to some of those who have been complaining on here.

There is at least one thread if not more relating to the D40 clutch, I think most solutions have been to get them replaced with something better but if a search doesn't find something just hunt out the specific section in the D40 area you're bound to find something useful

If you've done 50,000km with a 2.5T van behind you, I'd suggest that you don't need to worry too much because you've probably got a decent clutch and definitely aren't over-stressing the thing - they seem to fail anywhere up to the 30,000km mark.

The same company that makes the D40 brakes must make the clutches as there crappy built aswell.

Dave.

I'm not overly worried about my brakes because they are wearing as I expect them too but I've stopped taking my clutch with me these days to extend it's life. It's a pity really because the white shiny leather and the sheer strap means it goes with just about any outfit.

I just wanted to let everyone know that just because the doomsayers want to tell everyone how bad the D40 bits are that not everyone suffered accordingly. I believe giving credit where credit where credit is due and both my brakes and my clutch and working fine.
