Hey guys. I did my egr blanking plate and im going to look at a new exhaust, my question is should i also fit a catch can to go with the egr mod. Any feedback would be great as you guys were awesome with the egr.
Any pics of catch can set ups would be sweeet to

Cheers Benny

Camo.b do you know if i need a specific catch can kit like the provent 200 with the i think 5/8 hoses to fit my 2.5 this built or will any can of any brand work.. Cheap or pricey... Cheers

I've been reading into this for the past 2 weeks off and on. They are very useful if you do alot of high revving stuff, even if you don't they are good insurance.

I was going to fork out roughly $200 for the Provent 200, but I've decided on one of the cheaper eBay ones (haven't got anything yet).

People buy the cheap eBay cans and put stainless steel wool/scrubber type stuff in them to help with trapping the oil. I've thought about this.

What happens if some or part of this material becomes loose, it's going to get sucked into your turbo. For that reason, I don't think I'll be putting anything in my eBay catch can.

I was also concerned about the venting on cans like the Provent, that is a possible point of ingress for water into your intake.

I have the small catch can from Forefront Industries. Quite a few people on this forum have the Forefront units & I've yet to hear a bad word about them.

One thing though, I ignored the arrow and connected the inlet/outlet hoses opposite to what is shown. I read on here subsequently that many others did the same. The main reason I did that was that it seemed to create less chance of the engine drawing in unfiltered air IF the cap came off or cracked etc. (Big if!) The cap seems to seal very well and if you were really worried you could probably silicone it up for a perfect watertight seal. Mines been on for about 3 months now and works like beauty!

The small one is fine, I don't think size matters in this instance! The small one would just fill up more quickly. I think I've drained mine 2 or 3 times in three months and all up I've drained out maybe 40 or 50ml at the most. It would take a long time to fill up.
The bottom fitting is for a drain hose which makes emptying a piece of piss.
Yeah, you would need some oil resistant hose and for mine I also used a couple of reducers as the PCV fittings are smaller than those on the catch can. Not sure if the D40 is the same.
Also the small catch can is easier to find a spot for in your engine bay!

I've got a couple of videos on youtube showing how I modified one of the D1 spec catch cans and installed it in the Nav, the second video shows the oil it caught after about a year. Been in for about 15 months now, going well. Just do a search for Navara D40 catch can.
