Why not install big wheels which would raise the Nav some 50mm rather than a lift kit ? Is this doable ? I have seen some 4WD which have had taller thinner tyres.

Because bigger tyres don't fit under the beast without a lift kit.

And 2" of lift would require a 4" taller tyre.

Yup. On a d22, you'd need to run 35's to get 2" of lift from the tyres.

And big tyres without a lift would leave you with no room in your wheel arches, so minimal flex without scrubbing, if you could even fit them to begin with, which you won't.

So just do both.

The other consideration with larger tyres is the loss of power & economy. It takes more effort to turn over a larger wheel, so if you do put on much larger wheels, you'll find the car less responsive and using more fuel than expected.

And you won't be complying with VSB14 re tyre size

gear ratios are also effected, which is not that good when you want 1st low and it ends up being equivalent to 2nd gear
