G'day

I'm Bazza this is my first visit to the forum. I come from Dubbo NSW and I own a Nissan Navara D22 STR dual cab, chipped, larger 3" exhaust system.

Thinking about building a steeltray replacing the tub. What size is the largest tray I can build.
:cheers!: Bazza

Welcome Bazza the new guy. I think your question has been answered before but hang around and someone will come along and have another go. I'd suggest you'll find something along the lines of largest may not always be the best optional in a legal sense so you might have to confirm any sizes with the RTA but someone is bound to know better than me.

Length or width?

Width is easy: 2.5 metres. That'd look pretty ridiculous on the back of a Navara though. You'd have to fit duallies or something so it doesn't look so silly.

Length: Based on max overhang, same as the Victorian rules, 3.7m or 60% of the wheelbase, whichever is the lesser. In the case of D21/D22, you're looking at a max overhang of 1.77m, which results in a max tray length of 2.13m (7').

6'x7' is the kind of tray you're probably after and heavy duty examples are common fitment to single cab Toyboata 7X series and Patrol utes. You'll need a modified mounting pattern though.
