Bad whining sound????

Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me,
I was driving home from the footy yesterday down the Monash in 6th gear Doing around 100km's when I started hearing this horrible whining sound that seemed to whine with the engine revs,
It didn't effect my idle revs nor did any dash warning lights come on.
When I got home I popped the bonnet to have a listen, and I could still hear the noise at idle?
It's not a nice sound coming from a car with only 20k on the clock.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before ?

Have you tried the other whining D40 (as opposed to whining d40 drivers) threads? There was one only last week about whining under load.

I'd grab some silicon lube and carefully spray it on your idler pulley while the engine is stopped, then crank it over and see if it's still doing it. Try not to get any on the belt itself.

Nah, it's a really hard noise to explain, I'm taking it in to Nissan in the morning so hopefully it's an easy fix.

Turned out to be my Alternator, Nissan replaced it under warranty after it got really bad.
It was a pretty hairy drive down to the dealership actually.
All better now running like a dream.
