bad clattering noise

Hi all my 2.5 d22 has been making a really loud clattering sound coming from the front of the motor when first started in the morning until the oil pressure builds up then it goes away does not do it again until left for the night.
My neighbor thinks it could be a hydraulic lash adjuster playing up

yep
its the timing chain tensioner not getting enough oil pressure at start up
mine does it occasionally on real cold mornings,a quick rev and it dissapears
what oil are you using?
try semi syn 10w40

Using castrol magnatec diesel at the moment I was worrying it might be doing damage until the oil pressure builds up
