Air filter / snorkel question

Hi all,
Trying to sort out a few thing on my new nav.
I have a question about the safari snorkel setup on my car.
Should the intake pipe in my engine bay slide in and put a little where it goes through the guard into the snorkel? I am thinking it does this for movement maybe but then I think how can it be water tight?

I dont think it should have any movement, well none of mine ever have BUT You can check if its air tight by taking the head off the snorkel then start the car and block the top of the snorkel with a book or something similar. The car should start to or actually stall from lack of air. If you do this with the bonnet open and it is sucking air you will certainly hear it.
