I have not done either of those, I'll have a look for leaks and mention it to the mechanic when I get it serviced next. I'd be glad if it is just my own inexperience with engine noises and not a mechanical problem. Cheers Phunk, thanks for the advice.

Here's one. the noise is definitely coming from the exhaust, and it only started making it recently.

G'day, My 2013 ST D40 has recently started making a whistling noise from the exhaust. it makes the noise as the revs come back down after revving the engine. still makes the noise while in gear and driving. any ideas as to what might be causing the noise appreciated.
