Engine power loss and cutting out under load

Wouldn't the accelerator position switch be likely if that was the fault showing? How/why did you rule that out? Normally they would just go and you would have no accelerator, but they don't have to do this. From memory they are a 5.2k-0-5.2k ohm variable resistor so there's the possibility of...

    Aluminum Radiator D22 ZD 30

Shame they stopped using the old brass radiators, they were easy to repair. Back in the day, when we used to use tap water with a bit of soluble oil for coolant lol. Think some people still make/sell them though. 20 years doesn't seem a bad run for a modern radiator and that would be a good...

    Steering lock stop caps

They do a great job at stopping that crunching sound for sure. Though I found it was a never ending job replacing them, they wear out so quickly. Haven't had them on for many years, I just grease them occasionally which seems to do much the same thing.

Rear of engine right side half way down some kind of plug ,switch solenoid maybe has wire plug on it anyone know what it is

Sounds like the oil sender (which requires a 27mm deep socket to remove/install). From memory it has only one wire and a plug going to it, won't stop the engine from starting. All that will happen with this disconnected is that if you lose oil pressure the warning light won't illuminate. Could...

    Advice Needed

Only IMO of course but I don't think extra fuel filters are worth it on these and might in fact cause problems because of restriction. Most people would install a lift pump to account for this, but in the end all you'll achieve is extending the interval between changes of the factory filter. So...

The old silver D22 touring ute.

Only just run in then lol.

    Fuel water separator/pre filter recommendations

I agree withe the above ^. A sedimenter is probably not be a bad idea, but adding extra filters might not be. It will add restriction to the fuel system and give the fuel pump extra work to do. All it might do in the end is extend the life of the fuel filter that's already there. A better way...

    A/C THERMO

Here's the relevant part of the diagram. Here's the info for the switch. Looks like with a/c running you should have continuity between pins 2-3. If not, either the pressure is too low or the switch is faulty.

    A/C THERMO

Here's a link to the manual for the D22. https://navlife.com.au/d22-series-service-manuals/

    A/C THERMO

Yep, that's the pressure switch on the "liquid tank" according to the manual. Should be a way to test it first.

    A/C THERMO

Gave you a bum steer there, in the "*" it says that cooling fan cct was for an earlier model (QD32). Sorry about that. There is no diagram in the manual that shows the fan (for zd30) that I can find in the "heating and air conditioning" section. It does show the pressure switch and says it is...

    A/C THERMO

According to the manual there is a "thermo control amp" module that works with a thermistor to turn the compressor off when the evaporator starts freezing up (to defrost it). It's in the evaporator or "cooling unit" itself (under the dash). From the a/c schematic it looks like the condenser fan...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

That makes sense to me (which could be a worry lol). In fairness I've heard this claim from people who sell such aftermarket stuff. Have seen it recommended for cars that are chipped to lower egt's. The fuel economy claim could be just manufacturer marketing spin also. At least I know the 3...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

Yep. Basically cooler air will contain more oxygen than the same volume of warmer air, because it contracts (and warmer air expands). The part I'm not getting is the claim that this reduces egt's. As to the "more fuel", that seems at odds with the design idea, which is ultimately to use less...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

The Patrols seem to have had design and sensor issues that caused them to over boost and over fuel (and get over stressed/ too hot), with predictable results. There could be a message in that for the aware lol, but putting a little four cylinder motor in them and working the guts out of it was...

    A/C THERMO

Is the compressor actually working? Afaik the condenser fan is supposed to run whenever the compressor is on.

    Speedo not accurate

Seems like a common problem with the later models. Think they're allowed to be under by something like 10% but less leeway the other direction. Hence most modern cars read under. All the old zd30 models I have been in have been pretty accurate. When the speedo says 100kph in mine it's actually...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

There is a way to check fuelling via electronic gadgetry (lol) afaik, there'll be posts on here about it. Though replacing that is big money and they have been known to go at low kms also. So it might not be worth doing that as a preventative measure. Keep changing the filters regularly is the...

How to keep a d22 with 386000kms on it going strong?

I've got one similar, though the kms on mine are a bit misleading as it's done so much off road where it can do a lot of work for not many kms, also had the speedo wires ripped off a couple of times. If it ain't broke don't fix it are my thoughts. Unless it has obvious problems or is using lots...
