How much fuel to cross the simpson desert

Did quite a few detours to the various ruins etc. I think I still have the OziExplorer gps files that I recorded somewhere. Let me know if you want them and I'll try and find them......one one of my 'puters somewhere. On this trip I also had a 105 series Landcruiser (1HZ diesel with...

    Another D40 timing chain

Damo....isn't the kit sold by Repco manufactured by this guy? Would make sense to me in financial terms to have your product available through such an organisation.

Choosing a Long Range Fuel Tank

Just thought I'd put it out there for all to think about when buying a long range fuel tank. I originally installed an Opposite Lock 160 ltr steel tank. This is an excellent looking tank that appears to be very well made....and it is...on the surface. Unfortunately as many of you would know...

How much fuel to cross the simpson desert

I did this trip in 2009. Full tank at Mt Dare (160 ltrs) and when I filled up in Birdsville I took on 104 ltrs. My D40 is and auto and heavy....refer to my aftermarket fit in the signature block.

    Another D40 timing chain

Guys - my son manages a large Repco store and he sent the attached flyer to me just yesterday. They now stock the upgraded timing chain....full kit and it is locally manufactured. I don't know what the price is yet but you could check with your local Repco.

..and now the starter motor :-(

New starter motor fitted and all good. The workshop foreman also told me that the failure of the starter motor was in part attributable to diesel leaking on it from a very small, but constant drip from the aftermarket water separator I've fitted. Didn't try and blame this to escape the...

..and now the starter motor :-(

Thanks for the advice Tony. I'd done most of what you suggest...ie cleaned all the terminals and the earthing points but still no go. Roadside assist decided to take it to the dealer in Nowra and they rang and told me that the starter motor had shit itself. Probably due to my recent spate of...

    Front stabilizer linkage

Interesting......I've noticed that mine is handling much better on the highway at speed now since this was fixed.

..and now the starter motor :-(

Latest thing to go wrong with my D40 is the starter motor. Solenoid engages but nothing turning over. Nissan Roadside Assist (great to deal with BTW) picked up the ute on a flat bed and took it the 70 odd kms to Nowra for a warranty fix. Now awaiting parts from Melbourne (2+ days) and hope to...

    Front stabilizer linkage

The gap from the top ball joint on the link to the boot is about 10mm on mine.

    Front stabilizer linkage

I was doing a post trip check over my D40 on return home from Cape York - looking for loose things, torn boots, worn rubbers etc, and guess what.......the linkage from the front stabilizer to the lower control arm on the driver's side of the car was missing - WTF. Took the car to Mr Nissan and...

    How many km's on your D40 ?

95000km or thereabouts 2008 auto dual cab D40: 1. leaky power steering rack 2. new torque converter 3. paint off radio power knob and they replaced the whole radio (go figure) 4. paint blistering around cruise control buttons.....replaced (it is doing this again but I've not bothered about it)...

    Huge case of transmission indigestion

Well hope to have the car fixed today and able to get back on the road south by Wednesday. One of the local guys did a temp fix on the filler tube and Mr Nissan ordered in a new part.........a week to get from Melbourne to Cairns in the 21st Century....go figure. Anyway they are working on it...

    Huge case of transmission indigestion

Seems that the dip stick housing fractured away from the transmission casing......still none the wiser really but should be in a better position to understand the issues tomorrow.

    Huge case of transmission indigestion

So true.....but I was prepared for an overnight camp on the mountain as I didn't know what the operating times for the Daintree River ferry were....thankfully it runs through to midnight daily.

    Huge case of transmission indigestion

Nearing the end of my trip to Cape York and just 50km from the Daintree River heading south and my auto transmission belched the entire contents of oil onto the road. In a bit of a precarious position on the northern approach of Mt Donovan and probably the steepest part of the Cape...

Aussie site of interest: Timing chain and Flywheel

Thanks...I will be interested in seeing the work. My access will be a bit hit and miss over the next 10 weeks as I'm off to Cape York and a bunch of other places throughout QLD tomorrow and not back home (Ulladulla NSW) until mid October or thereabouts.

Any Downsides to Manual Locked rear end

I've had an ARB air locker in the rear of my 2008 D40 for about 3 years now...works great.

    unexplained loss of power

If it helps fellas...I have a 160ltr Opposite Lock aftermarket tank fitted in my 08 D40 - I've never experienced this problem so perhaps it is peculiar to OEM tanks.

Aussie site of interest: Timing chain and Flywheel

Just had a pre-trip inspection done at my favourite off road centre (Hume Off Road in Canberra) and they told me about a guy in Brisbane who has recently done some design work irt timing change set ups and clutches/flywheels. Don't know much other than the website www.yd25.com.au - could prove...
