True and that was my ute.....but those sorts of things can happen to anyone. That I lost a couple of ltrs of fluid from the auto transmission due to a cracked filler tube....the guys that looked at this prior to going to Nissan for repairs told me that in their opinion the crack had been there...

Rotating the tank wouldn't do the trick for me as I have a 150ltr aftermarket tank. But the tank isn't the problem in my case as it was full to the brim when this happened to me. Never had it happen before in any situation.

Might be worthwhile to check your in-cabin pollen filters (there are 2 in a slot located behind the lower glove compartment). Any contaminants should be trapped here. I just replaced mine again after my Cape York trip last year....and lots of dust and they were totally blocked with crap...

Are you sure you are talking about the Check Engine warning light? What you describe there seems more like the DPF (ie Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light.....this one you do have to get up to speed to put the light out as per the handbook. The DPF issue has been discussed heaps on this...
