    Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark he said!!

Thought you guys might be interested in seeing this. Happened out on the Halligans Bay (Lake Eyre) to William Creek road a couple of weeks back. The guy, towing a Conqueror Caravan, crested a rise to find himself in an unsighted water-filled hole. The resulting impact bent the chassis (no...

    D40 Timing Chain...

I would recommend that before you do anything at all - get the car to a good diesel mechanic. There are mechanics and then there are those that know stuff about diesels and especially modern diesels. Ask around the local 4WD clubs etc. If you are near Canberra I would recommend Cooma Diesel or...

    1 inch extended shackles

Just be aware that extended shackles are illegal in NSW. Read the VSI at the link provided and especially note the second dot point under the section headed Suspension. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi_06_-_guidelines_for_light_vehicle_modifications_nov_2007.pdf

How many km should I expect from the stock tyres

I had BFG 265 70R16 All Terrains fitted as part of the deal when I bought my ute. I change the first set at 85,000 km and they still had about 5-10k of highway running left in them then. I elected to fit new BFGs at this time because I was going on a Cape York trip and really needed more tread...

recovery point ripped clean from chassis

That is why you fit them with the correct bolts. Use mild steel bolts and they will let go....use the correct high tensile bolts and they will never let go. You calculation might well be true if you used a winch extension strap or other medium that doesn't stretch. Most of that force will be...

recovery point ripped clean from chassis

So long as they are attached with high tensile bolts to the factory mounting points they will not fail. And, the turning moment is so negligible that it is not worth worrying about.

    D40 Fuel Economy

Depending on the road I'm on ie flat, undulating, hilly, steep up, steep down, slight up, slight down etc etc my Scangauge can read anywhere between 0 and 100+ litres per hundred km. The extreme left of that spectrum is idling downhill....the extreme right was travelling over Big Red towing my...

    D40 Fuel Economy

I'm with you Nathan.....I push to get 1000km out of my tank...and it hold 150 ltrs.

    D40 Hesitation and "limp" mode

That sort of thing has happened to me once (ie hesitation and then limp mode). I pulled over, turned off the ignition and restarted. I had full power back but the DPF light was on. Got the speed back up to 80+ and after about 10 minutes the DPF light extinguished and all good.

    Definitely run over a Chinaman

Got the car back today so here's hoping that's the end of these niggling problems.

    D40 Fuel Economy

Therein lies the difference Mike the autos are much more thirsty than the manuals.

    sway bar linkage

Yep lost the driver's side one on my trip to Cape York last year. I have an a ridepro/snake racing lift and fortunately for me the Nissan dealer in Canberra did the replacement of the link under warranty.....even though they had a few problems getting the front spacers back in place.

    Definitely run over a Chinaman

For the 3rd time in a month my ute is in with Dr Nissan. This time the injector pump o-ring has blown and have a substantial oil leak. Two days to fix....good thing I have some party hours to participate in up in Nowra this week eh?

    D40 Fuel Economy

My consumption has never been that bad but I too fail to get the figures being quoted above. My consumption history is here: http://www.fuelly.com/driver/pete22/2008-d40-dual-cab-ute

    D40 Fuel Economy

In addition to a lot o aftermarket stuff that is steel and heavy, I also run 265 70R16 BFG All Terrain Tyres.....these bigger tyres will no doubt suck a bit more juice to get them moving and keep them moving.

    D40 Fuel Economy

My 2008 D40 isn't flash enough to have and on board computer but I do have a Scangauge II - once set up to the tank size etc the Scangauge II and my manual calculations are withing half a litre per hundred of each other......and I might say nowhere near the 8,9 or 10 others seem to be...

is it normal that the d40 runs at such pressure.

I could be wrong but I understood that the timing chain problem was only with the 2.5 diesel engines. The 6cyl petrol VQ donk didn't suffer from this problem AFAIK.
