    EGR mod on d40

Tony....do you have a catch can fitted? If so would you mind taking a few pics of the installation and giving a bit of detail about the make etc.

    D40 Fuel Economy

I'm going to take a wild arsed guess here and say that Mr Nissan is going to try and duck out of paying for this if they are already blaming bad fuel ......or do you mean high consumption?

    dual battery question

I agree with what the others have said. You might also consider fitting a 12V to 12V charger like the Projecta DC20 (http://www.batteriesdirect.com.au/shop/product/9602/dc20.html). I've fitted one of these in my ute and another in my campertrailer......very good at dealing with any voltage drop...

    EGR mod on d40

Michael....with the excellent fuel consumption you are getting I wouldn't bother. It us blokes with the autos that think they are contestants in an Oktoberfest drinking contest who are trying to get a better return for our diesel dollars who are really trying all sorts of options.

    EGR mod on d40

I've used a Chipit blanking plate and no gasket or goo at all.....very easy to remove.

    D40 Fuel Economy

The only time I turn OD off is when off road and in low range.....and even then I don't know why I bother because I've never felt that 'shock'. I even use cruise control at low speeds so I don't get booked by the sneaky copper hiding behind a tree or one of those newfangled mobile 'safety'...

    D40 Fuel Economy

Which "orange" light are you talking about? I'm guessing that it may have been the DPF light and that is why it has gone into limp mode. Like OldTony says....extremely doubtful that this has anything to do with your gearbox....indeed I'm willing to bet my left testicle that this is so:-)

    D40 Fuel Economy

Now you're showing off Chris  but I will say since blocking the EGR my consumption has dropped from 14 to 12.5 around town and I seem to have more grunt earlier in the rev range as well.

Cannot even fit a bull bar to D40!!! Are these a 4 x 4 or just a grocery fetcher??

I had the recall and the only thing that was done was the bonnet restrainer. Why? Well in the first few days of owning the vehicle I had the OEM suspension tossed and a composite Ridepro job fitted by a reputable off road mechanic. This isn't just a D40 thing either.....there aren't too many...

    D40 Fuel Economy

There's your problem I believe. The only time your torque converter will lock up is when in drive, OD on and about 50% throttle angle. If you are concerned at any time that an approaching hill might be too much....deselect OD at the time. The auto gearbox will decide when it wants to change...

    D40 Fuel Economy

You got me mate....what are you doing to run 3000 rpm at 95/100kph....you should be no more than 2200 rpm. Are you locking the car in 3rd gear or something. I tow in Drive and with the Overdrive on (ie the little orange light on the dash is off) and the worst I've gotten is 17 ltrs/100km with...

    Hot cabin!

Not a good idea to carry naked women in the cabin of a D40......invariably raises one's temperature

    Headlight globe replacement

I don't think the workshop manual is much help either. I've attached the relevant page.

What warranty work has your D40 had done.

What OldTony says....and....I'm thinking that you are on your very first 4WD. It might be beneficial if you not only read your vehicle handbook but also this site might just put it into plainer language for you HowStuffWorks "How Four-Wheel Drive Works" Depending how long and how winding the...

    Factory positive battery terminal

I too winch off my starting battery and with the engine running. My aux batteries (2 x 105AH supercharger all rounders) are mounted in the tub and for the amount of winching I do I just couldn't see any sense in running welding cables from the tub to the winch. In nearly 3 years I've not used...

D40 - Is it really the evil son bitch it is made out to be?

I was going to get a D22 originally.....but far too squeezy for my 188cm frame - fourn the D40 a much more comfortable ride than any of the dual cabs on the market the time.

    Wiper blades for D40 STX

You can get them from Repco these days.....I think I paid around $30 for the two blades.

    Fuel Contamination

I'm only guessing here Krankin but make sure you check that what you have won't inhibit the rate of fuel flow to the pump. Water Watch has no filter and the model I have fitted is good for 2.5 to 8 ltr engines. Some CAV type filters are not suitable for common rail engines so just make sure you...
