Fit a catch can. do a search and you will find how to do it. it will most likely be oil vapor from the rocker cover. Mine did what you describe until I fitted a catch can.

Its hollow. Unfiltered air is from outside the filter. Filtered air from inside the filter.

That's what a thermostat is for. My temp gauge has never fluctuated with weather or anything else. Not to mention you will know if a diesel is cold by it rattling. I thought you meant overcool intake temp. I was wondering what planet you were on :o My mistake.

Thanks for an interesting (if sad) post. Wonder how the sand got in? did you have any nose dives off dunes ect? So do you think the sand caused the turbo bearings to fail? If so the sand obviously got in pre turbo inlet. Do you recon the sand gas damaged the bore/rings? Guess it would.

Maybe the hamstring in your right leg has stretched due to all the stretching over into your engine bay swapping pod filters ect. This will have caused your right food to be able to move quicker onto the loud pedal causing the engine to unleash all its power instantly thus causing the side...

The belt is tensioned via the belt tensioner. Try the belt first.

Gday mate and welcome. You should do the suspension. At least replace the shocks. A free flowing exhaust will make it more drivable. A catch can and blocking the EGR will enhance reliability amongst other things. Do a search for these things. Plenty of info on this site.
